Essential Tips on How to Use an Electric Toothbrush

    Last updated 5 days ago

Knowing how to brush your teeth correctly is one of the most important parts of everyday dental care, and you can avoid treatments such as fillings, extractions and cosmetic dentistry veneers when you keep your teeth in perfect condition.

Dental assistant Michelle McPhail demonstrates how to use an electric toothbrush in this video for eHow, and also explains the different types of toothbrushes available. These may be operated by batteries or charged by the mains, and may simply vibrate to loosen dirt or rotate in the correct tooth-brushing motion. In the case of rotating toothbrushes, these can simply be moved around the mouth to clean all areas, whereas vibrating toothbrushes should be manually moved in circular motions like a normal toothbrush.

Angling the bristles of your electric toothbrush upwards will help to clean the gums, and you should ensure total coverage of all the teeth in your mouth by brushing the front, back and top of the teeth in turn. You will need to replace the toothbrush head as regularly as you would replace a normal toothbrush, to ensure the bristles are suitably firm and capable of removing plaque and other debris from tooth and gum surfaces.

Many people prefer electric toothbrushes for the convenience they offer, and these toothbrushes are often recommended by dentist for people who have trouble brushing their teeth on a regular basis and require extra support. Amazing Dentists Doing Their Bit to Help Make the World a Better Place

    Last updated 12 days ago

The Bridge2Aid initiative involves skilled dental professionals from the UK passing on their knowledge and expertise of everything from extractions to dental bridges to health care workers living in deprived areas of Tanzania. Find out how you can get involved in this remarkable programme.

What is the Bridge2Aid dental volunteer programme?
The Bridge2Aid Dental Volunteer Programme (DVP) involves teams of up to 12 dentists and eight nurses or hygienists who voluntarily travel to remote clinics in Tanzania with the aim of helping to provide basic dental services to people in the local communities, while instructing local workers how to administer these treatments themselves.

These trips are 13 days in length and include a significant amount of travel, so applicants need to consider their responsibilities carefully. It's also required that dentist applicants have at least one year's post-graduate experience to ensure they have a suitable level of skills and experience for the tasks involved.

    Show your support
You don't have to be a qualified dentist or travel all the way to East Africa to lend your support to this important project. Anyone who is interested in raising money for this worthy cause of dental and development charity can sign up to receive fundraising packs for sponsored activities, such as marathons and skydives, or to host parties and other events to help raise awareness and encourage people to donate. Official Bridge2Aid Christmas cards will also be available later in 2012.
